Question M.A.P. Questions

I was reading a thread the other day about map sensors and it said something about the black series are the bad ones and the gray ones are better?? Is this true? I looked at mine and it looks like I have the black style ( O.E.). I have been noticing a power loss lately ( for quite a while) I was thinking it was my injectors wearing out ( pushing 267,000 now on orig. injectors). excessive smoke out exhaust ( gray). I unplugged the map sensor and it seemed to have a lot more power and less smoke out exhaust. Would the map sensor have anything to do with the exhaust color?? It seems to build boost a lot faster now and higher. I used to get about 2-4 lbs boost at 65 mph, 1900 rpm. just now I was getting 6-8 lbs on a flat stretch of road. By unplugging the sensor and getting better performance that means the sensor is bad right. Does anyone have a good source for a new one other than the stealership ???

I heard that about cam position sensors. (black vs grey) but not map sensors. seems like youre loosing some boost too. even those normal numbers seem kind of low. not sure on that though. check all the boots? check the exhaust pre turbo?

Yes with that symptoms and if you unplugg the MAP sensor and have better performance, you have a bad sensor.

I purchased mine at rock auto dot com for MUCH less but mine is not a daily driver so I had time to wait. It is genuine Motorcraft as well.

Try with one of our sponsor like Riffraff Diesel Performance.

PartsguyEd $165.67. Search with the part number from the TSB on his site.

PJWOOLW, how did you find it there, I just looked and tried to us a part no. and the word map sensor even scrolled through categories and no map sensor listing. ED's website looks identical to powerstrokeshop.com

At the home page look for the search for part number. Paste the part number in. Remove the dashes in the part number. Choose Ford to the right of the part number box. Click search button.
