hey guys. i need some help here. i have a 2000 expy 5.4. i just got the head gaskets changed and everything is good. however i was filling the collant back up and once i got about 2 gals in there i heard some driping and looked underneath and there is coolant flowing down. i tried to see where it is coming from however i cannot see where.
from what i can tell it is coming from somewhere behind the passenger side of the engine. what all is back there that could leak? my friend will be the one looking for me as i cant do it right now do to an auto accident i was just in. so i would like to know a few areas i can tell him to look so he can have an idea what to check.
If you have rear heat/ac the pipes run behind and down in that area. Check your heater hoses to the firewall. If the cylinder head wasn't installed correctly it could be leaking coolant from there. This is unlikely but I have seen it happen. Most likely it is a coolant hose for the front or rear heat.
ok guy's we figured it out. the coolant was leaking out from under the thermostat housing down into the valley then once that was filled up it would run down the back of the block. the reason for the leak was the gaskets did not have the rubber area around the coolant passages below the housing causing the leak. i got a new set of gaskets and they turned out to be the same. so with one of the old gaskets and one new one, some carefully placed black rtv and a lil time i got it fixed and the expy will be getting registered tomorrow.
thanks anyway for the suggestions fordno1.
