How in the world does the trim that holds the door panel insert on a custom cab come off! I'm guessing it gets pried off, but thought I'd ask before I try. It is in such good shape that I truely don't want to ruin it.
And speaking of the door panel insert, are the ones available on-line worth purchasing? I can make my own, which will then match the headliner and the lower kick plate on the door, but it might be easier to buy new ones.
DON'T PRY ON THE CHROME! Remove the door handle, arm rest and window winder handle and the screw in the top front of the chrome strip. Pull the plastic door panel out forward. Helps if it is reall warm and flexable. Then take a wide putty knife and pry under the chrome and the green retaining clip. Comes right out, helps if it is warm. Use silicone to seal it up when you push the clips back in. I have found cleverly hidden pop rivets under the door panel holding the chrome on. The chrom would never have come off unless I drilled the rivets. Matter of fact I have hidden a few pop rivets under there myself. As for the plastic door panels, buy the black ones and paint them. They are a good product and fit well, just a little thick and harder to work with. I always thought a nice piece of construction paper with fabric over it would be nicer.

The door is in my basement where it is nice and warm. The panel was trash so I had already ripped it out and had removed the rest. At first I thought the trim might slide out until I saw the clips were installed in different directions. That is when I figured they must just pull out. I just like to get opinions before trying something that might be hurtfull to my truck.
Eric,
"I plan on making my door panels out of headliner cardboard covered in viynal. William do you think that this will be too thick. Eric"
I was thinking of cutting some galvanized I have sitting around, covering it in vinyl and installing it. The front could be bent to match the curve at the front of the door. I think the headliner would be too think.
44 - sounds like that would work also. Myself, I'm going for a "softer" look. That's why the vinyl covering. It already looks good on the headliner and door kick plates.
