Pete, I've had issues with just FTE before.
The website would require me to manually log in every time I would close, then re-open IE.
The cure was to go to the cookie folder and manually delete every cookie.
Problem solved.
I am, Dan... in fact, I just logged in through Benjamin's account to see if it might be account related, and it is not. I get the same problem through his account. It HAS to be my machine... just cannot find out where or why or how to get it fixed. While I'm on B's account, though, I'm going to try to post an image to see if that is also related to my machine.
Oh well... Benjamin cannot post images at all yet.
From another IT guy, PREVX can be downloaded and run for free to see if you have something worse going on in the virus side of things. I have used about every virus removal tool made, and this one is tops in my opinion. If it finds a bad one, you have to buy the one year subscription to remove it, but its very thorough, the absolute best IMO.
Edit: the Ccleaner you were pointed too is also the bomb, I actually have it in the startup script of 99% of my users to keep things cleaned out.
I just logged in from the office and I do not have any click-jack issues on my engineering laptop. So, it is definitely an issue with a setting or hijack issue on my Toughbook at home.
I'll definitely check out the PREVX, but I'm at a point where I am to soon take a different tack on this issue.
I've confirmed that my hardware in my Toughbook is 64-bit friendly, and when I'm out in certain sitautions, the programs I need to run and keep open are hogging what little 32-bit memory I have... it's to the point where I get into embarrassingly slow performance situations in front of a customer, and I cannot afford to work that way.
Therefore, I have already received my Windows 7 Professional (full install, not upgrade), and all I need to do is back up my preference files for Office and copy all my data off to my portable HD... then I'll reformat my drive and start from scratch with a completely clean install of Win7pro, Office2010, Acrobat9Pro, etc. I do NOT look forward to the process, but I am excited about finally getting access to all 4GB of ram (and having the potential for as much as 8GB). At the same time, whatever is going on with my current situation here in FTe will become history.
One question for both Visseroth and onelionhunter...
What do you guys know/think about the Comodo line or products. I ran BitDefender for a couple years, but it got to where it was a huge memory issue, so for the reasons I described in my previous post, I had to ditch it. Comodo seemed to offer something better and have a strong rep, and has been doing a good job for me as well as I can tell.
I would just like to know if you guys think I should maintain my subscription to the Comodo line if I like and choose to run the Prevx and/or Ccleaner products on a daily basis.
Obviously, I also welcome input from anyone else with extensive knowledge on these products.
Pete, I started having problems with my Panda anti-virus when I re-upped for another year of subscription a few years back. The new update was a HEEEE-YOOOOOOGE resource hog.
Then, before the year was up, I started getting a ton of pop-ups that Panda could not handle, and nothing out there seemed to take care of. I tried the free stuff for spyware, anti-virus, pop-ups, etc. Nothing could "see" it, much less fix my computer. Neither Panda, Nortons, Spybot, or AVG (and a couple others I tried that I can't remember the names of), were able to fix my computer.
A friend strongly suggested Prevx and back then, you could try it free for 30 days (full strength) and pay for the license after 30 days.
I downloaded Prevx and it cleaned my system lickity-split. Where all the others failed, Prevx conquered. Plus, it has a VERY SMALL footprint and is not a resource hog in the least bit. I paid for the license before the 30 days was up.
I think Prevx has changed their setup now though. I think you can download the softwared and if it finds anything, you have to pay for the license to clean your system.
Thanks, Stewart. That's sort of similar to how things progressed with BitDefender and Comodo for me, but it almost now seems like Comodo is beginning to get a little fat on memory as well. Comodo has definitely been an excellent tool because my frequency of lhaving things slip through has been way less than with BD.
I'm going to investigate to features of Prevx in more depth and see how they compare with Comodo's package.
