yup sure could have been. this happens more often then I would like to say. for some reason its almost always #5 that is the sorce.
if you are sure that all the vlaves on the right hand side are moving then the issue is going to be on the left side.
the reason you are hearing it on the drives side is that the sound is comming threw the air intake and exiting the air filter. this will be the case no matter what side the failer happens on.
this is also casued by a lifter that stayed pumped up and failed to bleed down. this is more common with engines that are left apart for a longer period of time.

when you find it dont freak out about valve damage or what not. just replace the push rod and fix the rocker if need be. put it back togerher and run it. Ive not seen any type of lasting damage from this happing.

HUGE thanks to Matty169 and Cheezit.

You both helped me majorly.

Sure enough bent push rod. The rocker arm looks good. No bends cracks or anything I can really see.

I will order a few push rods just in case...

heres a pic

ya man like I said it happens to the best of us, nothing you did wrong just a quark of the 6.0.
what cyclinder did it?
normally spinning the engine over by hand a few times stops this, guess that doesnt always work.

I guess a push rod isn't part of the valve train, huh?

That sucks. Wish it didn't happen to me lol.

That seems to be the culprit of all the problems I had?

It was cylinder number #5.

yup put it in. spin the engine over with the starter silenoid wire at the right side battery and make sure its moving correctly. then reinstall the oil rail and valve cover. this way if you have to take it apart agin it will take less time.

there is a single wire that has a 1"-1.5" long round connector. seperate the connector and jump the male sise to the positive battery with the key off. this will bypass the ingition circuit and crank the enigne over.
if the truck has a zf trans make sure its in nutral

Alright thanks. I will put the right side valve cover on and other stuff.

I hope a new push rod fixes it. It's driving me crazy waiting to drive it.

If it was cylinder #5 that had the bent push rod why are you putting back on the right hand valve cover? That's where #5 cylinder is. 3rd cylinder back on the right (passenger) side.

I just figured I should check that side to make sure everything was straight on that side also. No big deal half and hour to put it back together.

The third cylinder back on the pass side is the one that had the bent push rod which is why I believe that code came on.

I spoke with matty169 on the phone he also said to check both sides.

LMAO--I am totally confused or you are. The RIGHT side of the engine IS the passenger side which is where cylinder #5 is. That's why I didn't understand why you were putting the RIGHT side valve cover on. Right and Left are determined by sitting in the drivers seat, not standing at the front of the truck looking into the engine compartment.
