Sorry for taking so long to get back with you guys, been a bit busy. Well the float took care of the problem. I can drive around, shut her off, then fire her right back up with the turn of the key. Now I am assuming I need to adjust the carburetor because I can hear a faint popping in the exhaust at idle. Now here is how I will do it, so please tell me if I am wrong.
1. I will slightly seat the mixture screws, then back them out 2 1/4 turns.
2. Start the truck and let warm up to operating temperature.
3. Set the idle speed at 650 RPM
4. One mixture screw at a time I will back out till engine RPM raises, then screw back in counting turns till engine starts to run rough, then back the screw back out half as many turns. So 4 turns in would mean 2 turns out. Repeat with the other mixture screw.
5. Set idle speed back to 650.
Well, this is how I have always heard how you adjust a carburetor, so am I right? Thanks for the help.
