Wow you luckey you know what!!!!

That is one CLEAN truck!

Sure don't see many clean crew cabs like that anymore!

You take damn good care of 'er to keep it nice and clean like it is

That thing will have 0 problems towing a trailer, 351 ZF5 4.10 plus you won't get horrible mpg doing so, like lets say a 460 would. lol

Glad to see you found a nice truck!

The temp gauge issue is the thermostat, I changed mine and now I get the normal readings it should. I personally got one that's rated for 175 degrees so my heat is warmer.

I would keep that color and just call it a piece of cheese.

My great uncle had an old chevy van from the 60's or 70's and it was that exact color yellow. We called it the mustard mobile lol
With its shape and all it literaly looked like a bottle of mustard lol

It does look like a great truck though, I know I've loved my extended cab '96, hope you get lots of good times out of it!

No time to do anything else with the idle issue. I will tell you this much though. I think the fast idle problem is a dirty linkage issue. I noticed the other day that the pedal seemed to have just a little more resistance than I thought was normal. Soon as I got it past that resistance hump, the ilde stayed up. But then I hit the gas real quick and let off it and the truck idled right down. If it were a carb set up, I 'd know the problem is sticky linkage, so I am going to get some carb cleaner and give 'er a good soaking down around the throttle.

No time to do the thermostat either.

The Cheese mobile or Mustard mobile just might work! Fer now we're callin 'er Old Yeller, but we're looking for something better. LOL!

The hitch off my son's old '85 did not fit, so I ended up getting one of those bolt on step bumper receiver set ups. It's not my first choice, but the step bumper on this truck is made of thicker gauge steel than other step bumpers I have seen. I think it will be fine for pulling an 18 foot camper. We got an insert with a 3 1/2 inch drop. That's the best we could determine it needed for the camper to go down the road level once the water tank is full and we're all in the truck with all our gear.

Next I need to get a T-Connector, the 7 way RV plug, and the truck and camper legal. Then it will be HAPPY CAMPING TIME!! Woo hoo!!!

BTW, I have already started to experience some of the drawbacks having a heavier duty truck brings with it. Someone knocked on our door today wanting to know if we'd pull their truck home. I wouldn't do it because the truck is not legal, and because I don't have a tow strap and refuse to use chains anymore. However, I did see how having a car hauler trailer with a winch on it could pay for itself over time. (yes, the wheels are turning in my head)

My trucks loud and looks like a 4x4 to the un trained eye, I get asked to pull cars, trucks, trailers and other crap to often and I'm just a little 150!
People think just cause its loud it can pull a house... NO lol

Although for just a M5 and a 302 it does pretty good gettin little front wheel drive cars out of the ditch on the dirt road by the river... Over the summer I just sit at the river, fish, and everytime someone goes in the ditch if they ask my reply is always "how much cash you got?" Lol

A quick update:

I drove the truck today on a 370 mile round trip. It got right at 14 mpg. I drove 65 most of the way. I also took care of the fast idle problem. It turned out that the linkage was just a little sticky. A few shots of some cobbyrater cleaner and it's idling like a new one! Still haven't taken care of the thermostat. We also haven't decided on a name for it yet. I told my wife we could get some round black decals, put them all over the truck, and then get personalized plates that say "Cheezy". That seems to be the most popular plan at the moment.
