Well, I finally went and done it! I bought a crew cab today. It's a 1992 F350, SRW, with a 351 and 5 speed. The truck is yellow, but we decided we can live with that for now until we can get it painted white (its original color). The truck only has 85k original miles on it. That's a big reason why I bought it. The truck is a hit with the kiddies and the wife. Now we have something to pull the camper we just bought and we won't have to worry about getting a different truck when we get a bigger camper next year. The tires are new. This thing rides down the road better than my half ton truck does. Pictures will follow.
The only issues the truck has is that the fuel guage for the front tank doesn't work (but there's nothing wrong with the tank--it switches back and forth between them just fine), and it seems to idle a bit too high (probly a sensor).
I like this one, it seems solid. And yes, that manual should be a ZF5, it was the 302 that didn't make it up to the 3/4. I hope that trucks give you many joys and little problems.
F350, longbed, with 351....WOW...never thought anything bigger than the 1/2 ton came with the 351.
As for the 5speed, I guess it is the ZF and not the M5od right?
I don't know which 5 speed it has. First gear is low, but it isn't like other granny low transmissions I have had in the past. Maybe it's the 4.10 rear end that makes it low. I will check the trans code tomorrow and see which one it has.
And yes, the 351W was used in 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. It made its debut on them during the early part of the 80s as a four barrel set up, the 351 H.O. In '87 they dropped the H.O. and just called it the 351W with EFI. In the 70s, they used a two barrel 351W in cars and the 351M in cars and trucks.

Yo tambien. El motor tiene pocas millas corridas y esta sano el cuerpo.
Nice truck!!! It sure doesn't look like it was owned by a masonry contractor. You and your family are sure going to enjoy it.
There are many threads here about the high Idle issues of these model trucks. It is probably something as simple as the Idle Air Control valve or the Throttle Position Sensor. There is a screw that looks like an idle adjustment on the throttle body. Don't touch this screw, that's not what it's for. If the previous owner has moved it, you will probably have to reset the base idle.
Thanks. I thought the problem might be that the thermostat needs changed. It doesn't get very far into the normal range. In face, the guage goes just past the line by the C. I thought maybe the truck just isn't getting to the right temp and the computer was keeping it on fast idle. It got dark today before I could do it, but I want to run a code check on it. Yeah, I probly should have done it before I bought it, but I know enough about these trucks to know this is a good one that probly needs a sensor or two replaced in it.
