I went to the local salvage yard today and I think I may have run across a deal. I found a fairly nice step side bed that showed a little surface rust on top of the fenders due to thinning paint. Also the wood floor was gone and a piece of sheetmetal was stuck in place. What style step side bed was offered on the 73-79 and were the same ones used on previous models. I am aware that some of the older ones have angled bed rails while some are flat. Thanks for the input.
The reason I asked is because it was on a 72. It has the flat top rails just like on my 77. I just didn't know if the same one was used on the 67-72 models that is used on the 73-79. I didn't know if the bolt holes were the same or not and for a $100 I want to try and rescue it before it is crushed.
The bed I placed on my 77 was from a 79 and it had the flat tops. I have no idea what was on what year models that's why I asked you guys. You all are so knowledgeable.
don't care what year its off of for a bill i'd go home same day and wait patiently for me to find a truck to mount it on... those things are rare over here and the trucks to mount them on get more expensive every year... think i'll need to buy a long bed 4X4 and shorten it...
ya man for 100 bucks... who cares pick it up and sell it to one of us on here... if not ... STILL who cares put it on your truck. stepsides are awesome and cooler looking then reg beds... imo. i wish i could find one like that around my way.
also in 79 as a mid year change they went to that square style bed, which is the same one used up to the mid 90's. it looks more out of place then the mid 70's model. I had bought a step side bed for mine $200. from a wrecking yard in AZ. lots of little minor rust issues, but restorable. i liked the look of the step side at certain angles, but hated it from others. So I ended up keeping the style side and selling the step side for $800. the style side just fits the lines of the truck better.
