hay guys ,my last post was about not getting fuel.i fixed that .now my 86 f250 6.9 diesel. 4 sp 4x4.starts for about 2 second and stalls ,even feathering and playing with the pedal.what could be causing this? my only problem visible is a 3x1 inch hole on the exhaust manifold passenger side.would this cause stalling??im thinking a vacumm problem maybe?
Will it finally start and run or it keeps running and stalling?
If it starts then stalls, and then you crank and crank and it finally starts and runs, that's air in the fuel system from a leak in the system letting air in when it sits overnight.
If it runs and stalls and keeps this up without running at all, it sounds like a fuel starvation problem. I would check the fuel filter and see if it't full, or just poke the valve on the filter head and see if fuel squirts out right after it stalls.
If you have fuel to the filter and it's feeding fuel ok to the injection pump, it might be something wrong with the injection pump.
Depending on what you find, you could go get some diesel kleen at the store, take the fuel filter off and pour the fuel out, and then fill the filter with the diesel kleen and see if that makes a difference.
thanks man,it runs and stalls runs and stalls over and over ,but for an 86 it starts rite up i will say.is there a trick to checking the injector pump or is that it? i was planning on changing the filter so ill try that, and the diesel kleen .ill get back yo you. hay a guy in the pre powerstroke forum told me too bleed the injectors.but its 20 + years old and i dont think they will come out without snapping or cracking ,is there a easier way to bleed them?
No fuel squirts out? Sounds like you still have a fuel delivery problem.
If it starts right up, I would not bleed the injectors. If you ever need to bleed them, all you do is loosen the nut that holds the line on top of the injector, and then crank the engine. But these injectors don't need to be bled if you crank it long enough, the air will go out the return fuel system that connects the injectors together. Just don't burn up the starter.
