Ok so im sorry for making anoth thread but i couldn't find one on this topic. i just did an oil change & put in roughly 5.5 quarts of oil. My dipstick says its near empty. ive ran it probably 5 minutes or so. Also can someone post a link of how to rebuild a 2 barrel carb. My engine is the 351m/400. thanks guys
What do you mean your dipstick says it's near empty? If there's any on the dipstick at all, it's definitely not empty. Also you should be able to hold 6qts...or more if it's an extra capacity pan.
Well first you said you only used 5.5 qts, instead 6, and I don't think you're accounting for oil filter capacity either...so I'm willing to bet, you're gonna be low regardless. As for running it longer????? Not sure what that would accomplish?
A half quart low...yeah it'll be fine to run, I've run em 4 qts low before, and after about a 120mile drive, the temp started to spike in ATL at about 3am...that was fun. As for the carb, instructions should come with the kit, but it's really not difficult, especially if you lay things out in order of the way they came out.
Trust me, neither time was intentional...one time was a buddy's rig, poorly maintained and it wasn't until it was overheating that I realized it needed oil. The other time, when I had to stop in ATL, it was one of my trail rigs...no way should it have been on the street, but it licensed and registered...I was on my way back home from a romp on a buddy's property...and with an engine that uses more oil than gas, sometimes you lose track of when the last time you topped off oil...and when you ask a buddy to check and he says you're good, but he forgot to check, it leads to overheating in ATL at 3am, with 3 hours left in your trip.
