I had that problem once. I tried and tired with a sledge hammer to get that thing off and it would not budge. I finally put the lug nuts back on but a bit loosely. I had to drive that thing around the block quite a few times, but I definitely felt it when the thing broke loose!

Not really. We're not talking about them being real loose, and we aren't talking about going fast either. He can back off just a little bit from the normal position and that should be enough to break the rim loose. Sometimes just the weight of the truck is enough to break the rim free when it rusts in place like this.

Dont hit the rim, hit the tire.
I used to tow for a living and changed alot of flat tires. In that time I had 2 vehicles I couldnt ever get the tires off after beating them. One was a 10 year old ford focus that refused to budge and two has a VW jetta. The same old tricks always worked:
1. Sledge to the tire. Sometimes it helps to hit the front and back and at different points.
2. Take another tire of smaller size (usually the spare on cars) and use it as a hammer.
3. Kick the crap out of it with your foot.
Ive removed tires on everything from sport compacts to heavy duty box trucks to 18 wheelers using those methods. Never fails me.
Apply some heat to the wheel around the hub will help too.
When you do finally get it off sand the hub area of the wheel and the truck. Then get some grease or never-seize and lube it up-will come off easy then.
