How can I tell if I have the 400/800 update. I have had the truck since October and I asked the dealer about the updates and they said they would update it before I picked it up. They also said they filled the DEF and I was empty @ 2000 miles. Thanks
start the truck, put it in drive, hit the + on the steering wheel to display inidividual gears on the display panel.
put the truck in park, turn it off,
start the truck again, and put it in drive. the inidividual gears sould still be displayed. if so, you have the update.. if its back to D then you don't.
I just purchased my truck a month ago, (january). I took it to my local dealership and they checked it for me to see if my computer was updated. He said now and flashed it, i think it is worth taking your truck in.

There are a few flashes that have been released with these trucks, but I believe the first one was the 400/800 flash.
Sam is exactly correct about how to tell if you have one. Before the 400/800 flash the message center would default to not showing the gears every time you shut the truck off. So those of us who wanted to see it had to turn that feature on every time we started the truck.
After the flash it remembers it's setting, and stays on for those of us who turn it on. If it remembers your preference you have the flash.

How do we know if we had the newest flash updates? Is there a place to see the flash version number/edition? I know I have the 400/800 update, but I don't know if I have the newest flash, the ones that help more with the transmission shift points.
you will have to have a dealer check for that information.
I am thinking my dealer will shove me off and just say "you're good!" How do I know if they have the most up to date flash? What is the number for the most recent one?

wish I could justify it.. I only use my 6.4 for hauling to car shows, and while a little better mileage would be nice, I won't get 20mpg towing.
for the $30,000 cost diff I can buy a lot of fuel..
10mpg*1,000 gals = 100,000 miles towing.. and that won't happen I don't think.
but I sure would like the seats with the separate headrests..
like the open dash area more on the 6.4.. don't like similar closed console on my 08 Suburban.
Besides looking at the gear selection. Any truck built after Aug 1st has the 400/800 programed in at the factory. As fast as they sold last summer/Fall, I just can't imagine anybody buying a truck in the last few months that doesn't already have this.

The few issues that are showing up are job 1 builds that I guess have been on dealer lots since they were built (spring/early summer of last year for example). Some dealers have not been updating those trucks.
