I have a 351w with a two barrel carb I was told to convert it to a 4 barrel I would have to get differant heads true or false? Can you swap a 351w with a 302 and not have to change the motor or tranny [C6] mount locations Thankx Dennis
you can keep the same heads when you go to a four barrel, you might be confused becouse of people reffering to "4bbl heads" which were just better flowing head that came on early 4bbl engines.
and yes, both the 302 and the 351 use the same engine mounts and bellhousing patterns
Early 351W engines (1969-70) used the same heads in the 2V and 4V applications. 2V engines used dished pistions, while 4V engines had flat top pistons, resulting in a higher compression ratio.
No more 4V engines were made for cars or trucks until the mid 1980s. These 4V engines were installed in trucks, and marketed as H.O. engines and used a higher output "marine" camshaft but again, did not have special 4V heads. To add more confusion, Ford referred to the anemic 2V 351W engine installed in mid to late 80s Crown Victorias as H.O. engines.
There is often confusion with 351 Cleveland engines that did have distinct 2V and 4V heads.
