Replacing ICP connector/pigtail question

I'm planning on replacing my ICP and connector this weekend. It's an early build '03.

Any tips on doing the connector part?
I assume you cut the existing off and splice on the new one.
Anything to watch out for with the order of the wires?
Will regular solder do?
Will regular heat shrink work?
i know it's gonna be a pain doing the sensor, but how about the splicing, better to do that from on top or beneath?
Do you cover the whole connection with dielectric grease when all is said and done?

Plus, if this may need to be done again, is there maybe a male/female disconnect I can add so I can do this quicker next time, or could this interfere with the current/voltage etc?

No tip or helpful hint is too small
Thanks.

Just use butt-connectors. Forget solder and all that crap. I used normal wal-mart heat shrink on mine with no prob.
