On my 79 250 with a 400 I went to go set the timing and after I loosend the distributor hold down I go to move the dizzy and it won't move at all. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
I would use some PB blaster penetrating oil, let it sit, and try again. Sometimes they can sieze to the block. It may take a while. Try just getting it to turn. If it turns, it should come out. If this doesn't work I would take off the oil pan and see if its somehow jammed into the oil pump, or the shaft is stuck. Take off pump and smack it a few times to see if you can then remove it.
Oh and an oil filter wrench is handy at putting some pressure on it. Be careful though, the housing can crack.
I personally like Aerokroil penetrating oil. You can't buy it at the stores. You have to buy it from the manufacturer. Do a search for Kano Laboratories. This is the best stuff on the planet. I've been a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic for 20= years and have used every penetrating oil made. This stuff beats them all. I had a brake drum on a Bronco II that was seized to the axle. I heated it, I beat on it, I pried on it......wouldnt budge for a half of a day. Finally said hell with it..........sprayed it down with the Aerokroil and went in for the night. Came back out the next morning grabbed ahold of the drum and pulled it off by hand. This is just one case of how good this stuff is. I am NOT affiliated with Kano Labs.......... I am just a very impressed customer. Its a bit on the pricey side, like $14 for a normal spray can but a little goes a long way. After you have purchased from them they send out a flyer a couple of times a year that has some good sales in it. I highly reccomend that anyone who does any of their own repair work try a can of it. You'll be impressed too. And I repeat.......I AM NOT affiliated with them......
