2000 Ranger miss
I replaced the rear 2 intake plugs and put everything back together. Started as normal, but if i snapped the throttle open it would rev up and on the way back down it would stall. Seemed to go away a little as it warmed up.
Test drive went well with no problems. Even seemed to have more power.
I put the new coil on the intake side and move that coil to the exhaust side.
Now i'm wondering if something is wrong with the #4 injector. When i snapped the throttle it would miss on the way down and for a couple seconds, then go away... I say #4 because with the cracked manifold it's very easy to listen to it fire...
I think the next step is to wait til my code reader gets here and see if anything shows up. Maybe test the fuel pressure too...
You have a cracked manifold? which one? that could be your whole problem. if it is the intake that represents a vacuum leak. if it is the exhaust, then that will reduce back pressure and those 4 cyl. can not generate enough back pressure on there own without a sealed system. i had a break at the CAT and it ran like hell.
I'm really afraid of twisting a bolt off in the head, which is why i haven't already replaced it...
That very well may be your problem. is it in a spot that you could weld the crack closed with out taking it off maybe? otherwise all i can say is PB Blaster, lots of it, every day for a week solid. that should help get the bolts out with out destroying them

Got my code reader. No DTCs, ran the KOEO, KOER, and CM tests and everything passed.
I did hear the miss resurface during the KOER test, but the computer didnt seem to notice... I suppose that means everything is doing what it's supposed to...
Still missing. It was doing a lot better and a friend suggested using Lucas fuel injector cleaner, so i did and now it missed for a while every time i drive...
I'm wondering if one or more injectors are plugged up with something...So far i've replaced:
Intake side coil
new double platinum plugs (all 8)
new plug wires
Cleaned MAF
Ran about 4 different fuel injector cleaners (one at a time of course)
I dont have access to a scope to watch the injectors. i'm leaning toward plugged or faulty injectors. Am i going to the wrong way with my thinking?
Also, dont remember if i said this yet, but it seems like when i'm accelerating that once i get to mid RPM range the power really drops off. If i really wind it out (such as passing on the highway) when i shift back up it will start missing every time. With the way it runs while missing i'm pretty sure its the same cylinder (sometimes two).
This is my daily driver and really frustaring...
