Does anyone know what the ATF capacity is for a 79 Ranchero with a FMX transmission? The manual said 11 quarts. However, I have put in 9 and the dip stick shown over full. Or does the converter have oil in it or a oil plug, I couldn't see one. Also, the previous owner refered to this FMX has a small pan (if that means anything).
Thx

Yes, Ford converters all have drain plugs, If you drain it also it should hold 10-12 quarts of fluid. FMX transmissions had a cast iron center section with alluminum bell housing and tail housing, C-4 transmissions all 3 sections are alluminum, The C-6 is also alluminum but the bell housing does not seperate from the transmission.

You didn't say if this was a dry start fill or not. Either way start the engine the tq (pump) will be turning also and then you can get a better feel for the fluid level.
