i know the difference. it for sure a 7.3l and watching his tach compared to mine is completely different, im in overdrive at 40-45, he has a shift at 40-45 and shifts into overdrive at 55.
it might be the torque converter, but than why doesnt mine work? if the torque convert wasnt working would my MPG be lower than normal?
It could be a different gearing or his tach is inaccurate or just simply the way the truck shifts because of say a Valve Body adjustment. Without knowing what the gearing is, what the transmission is doing, it is hard to say. You have a chip, right? That might be doing strange things. You have 3.73 as a gear ratio. What does he have?
I would think that if the TC does not work at all, you get no movement since it is converting rotation force from the engine into the trans.
he has a chip and 3.73 gear in the rear. they are the same in every way except his is newer and seems to keep the rpms lower than mine
This is very odd, at least to me since he is having the same ratio on OD. He has a 6.0 and you have a 7.3, right? If so, MAYBE he has engaged OD and lockup while you have not. What about at higher speeds, say 65 mph? Are you sure both your tachs are correct?
