I recently had my 2002 f-250 HPOP serviced because the gasket and o rings were leaking. No problems until today when the truck quit on my wife. Had to tow it back to the shop and they told me that they accidentally stripped a fitting which caused the pump to leak. The shop was very honest by admitting the mistake,but I am worried about damage to the engine. The shop told me that the engine has a fail safe that shuts off the engine when low oil pressure is happening. Is this true?

The injectors fire off of high oil pressure. If the oil leaks out to the point that pressure cannot be maintained, the injectors quit firing. This happens long before the engine loses all lubrication.
So yes, you're fine. Fix the leak, fill it up with oil, and you're good to go.

I would ask them to replace it with Riffraff Diesel: Bosch 17° HPOP, then have it made into a Mod Terminator (?).
