Most will not recommend the K&N, the most popular and pretty affordable is the 6637 filter from NAPA or Clay at RiffRaff, or the AIS system.

Both of those remove the stock airbox which is known to crack around the clips and allow dust into the turbo and engine, here's the price on the 6637 or kit, Riffraff Diesel: 6637

Most parts stores can get you the filter as well almost always more than Clay, its cross reference is a wix 46637 part number.

All of these would be good options, Riffraff Diesel: Intake Kits / Filters

I've seen a lot of people around here using the 6637. What sort of performance gains are you getting with it?

As far as fuel gelling from the cold air intake....no. Not a chance for that at all. Whoever is telling you that knows nothing about these trucks. It only allows more air to flow and filters it better. Mpg gains...not so sure. I'm sure it helps but I can't sit here and say a factual number.

I really can't see this happening. As the turbo compresses the air, that air temperature gets super heated far beyond the incoming fresh air temperature.

I don't believe a cold air intake will promote jelled fuel Clay has a good price on the S&B intake, which if you are not wanting the 6637 would be the best bang for the buck.

By the time you piece it all together and run around you can just have a kit delivered from clay. But on a side not a 6637 kit is not a cold air intake, its a hot air intake. The stock box is a cold air intake. Do what you will with that info. It's still better than the stock box if it leaks air around the seal.

I just hate the terminology CAI. Put a filter on a stick and all the sudden its a cold air intake. Not!

If you don't buy the complete kit from Clay, you'll need;

1. The filter.
2. A 4" dia. piece of 4"exhaust tubing oor a 3 1/2 dia. (I think, this will be 4" outside diameter) 4" piece of PVC from Home Depot.
3. One 4" hose clamp, also found at Home Depot.

You may also need to trim the left side (turbo side) of the bottom of the battery tray, you can use tin snips or a Dremel.

You'll also have an air sensor that unplugged from the factory airbox. Leave it plugged into the harness but most people just zip tie it to the master cylinder. You'll see when you get into it. Pretty simple.

You 'could' get all the pieces from Napa, but you can find the pieces cheaper elsewhere, i.e. 4" length of 4" exhaust pipe, screw clamps. Here's a link to one of many threads on the subject (no pics, although there are plenty throughout this forum): https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...r-fab-one.html

For the price, quality of filter, and fitment of the system S&B is hard to beat.
