I opened the tail gate and now I have a door ajar light. Not only that the interior and exterior lights stay on for 15 mins after shutting doors. Checking the tail gate my question is where is the switch? The passenger side door was open also but is regularly and unable to see that switch here either. We have had freezing weather here for months and today is in the 50's so I dont know whether this has anything to do with it so maybe someone could shed some light on this problem. Many thanks for any suggestions.
The switch you are looking for are built in to the door latch/clasp mechanizam! I live in Wisconsin and have the same problem now and then, I keep a small can of WD40 in the Excursion and when ever I the lights stay on I just give a little spray in the latch. I find that the back hatch is the most prone to sticking.
DO NOT USE WD40 it will atract the dirt into the switches use silcon spray the switches are in the top door glass you have to remove plastic around window & remove the latches to replace switches. I used WD40 with no luck. The bad switch will be stuckin the in postion ther is a small pin that the latch hits when latch opens. One side you might be able to remove the switch but the other it hits the door body & you can not removt the switch.Went throught many times treing to clean just replace the switch you can look online for ford dealers to find the cheppest. I can'nt rember the cost. hope this helps. OH there is a clip that holds the plug into the switch that will give you problems to release the plug O-Ring pick works real will.Hope this helps
I wonder how difficult it would be to install a conventional door light switch to each door and hatch? You get them from a junk yard off an old vehicle...doesn't matter what brand, drill a hole and install it. Rewire the wires from the door latch to the new switch.
I'm going to look into this mod someday if or when my switches fail.
Same problem again with tail gate light switch, removed the lower trim and disconnected both the switches located next to the latches each side of the tail gate, problem solved. Before one night they wouldn't shut off and in the dark with flashlight found the fuse panel above the parking brake release and there are 3 rows (vert) of fuses, just pop the third one down in the center row fixes the problem temp and shuts all the interior and step lights. You will need this fuse to get the vehicle out of "P". Hope this helps if you suddenly get this problem.
