Hmmm...been smelling coolant lately. While changing the CPS (thanks FTE for the info!!!!) I looked up and saw a drop hanging from the drivers side of the water pump. How much trouble am I in for if it's replace time??
They aren't bad to change, its whether you spend a bunch for a quality one or press your luck with a parts store one. I got a parts store one, working so far (1 year). Good time to check out your belt and idler pulleys too.
Yep, pretty straight forward repair and not very expensive. When you go to do it, go to Ford and get a new water neck for it.. You will need it. I got my water pump and thermostat from O'reillys and it's been working fine for 3 years now. You will need a wrench for the fan if you don't already have one. They are a PITA to get off without the special wrench.

i have to change my pump also but theres no rush- my question is would you do a coolant change after you install a new pump or before the new pump. (or at the same time)
I was planning on doing a coolant flush this spring. I've got the coolant and distilled water all stacked up waiting, along with a new t'stat housing and t'stat. Glad I noticed this before not AFTER the coolant change.
The fan clutch tool has me a bit perplexed. Wonder if Autozone or O'Reilly have them as 'loaners'?
Any tips to handling cavitation while on the subject?
Thats my dilema at this point. I put in 6 gallons of coolant, the upper hoses still feel vacant, so I am sure there is tons of air in the system, and looking for tips on getting it out. Everytime I fire it up, she gets warm, then hot hot, but no release of air?
