Block heater swapout?
Block heater is showing up today. I believe its actually an oil heater not a coolant heater...Is this correct? so question is which one is it and whats the easy procedure to do this. If oil can I just drain the 14 quarts and throw back in the top when done? My oil has less than 1000 miles on it...maybe not even 300 miles on it.

FYI It's coolant. If you're quick, you may be able to swap and loose minimal coolant... just be prepared for a face full...otherwise if you're up for a coolant flush anyways, might as well drain it all

Okay coolant gotcha...does it plug into block or radiator. A dodge mechanic thought it was opposite but what does a cummins guy know LOL

Those pics make it look like its going into the oil path???? Is there coolant in that same area as well?

its a coolant heater. drain the coolant then swap out the heater.

In this pic you can see they have different path (oil and coolant are separated, you can see the resistence of the block heather there).

The coolant runs in the the cooler around the oil path and cools the oil
