Call up the nearest muffler shop. Ask them what the laws are on your truck. If your county or state requires that it be there, then you can get fined when you do inspections... If you don't have to worry about that stuff. Then cut that sucker out and put a delete pipe in place.

Sounds like a good weekend project to me! Unless you are required to pass emissions test on a regular basis. I would go for it..just hollowing them out like your talkin would at least give the look it is all there!! Before I did my exhaust I just removed and straight piped through.. I believe in my state if your vehicle came with a cat stock you have to keep one...I don't have one! I would do it.. but eventually get rid of that stock crap.. people will start to chime in about how bad the stock downpipe is.. I had no clue untill I removed mine and let's just say... I'm REALLY glad it's gone

You already have the cat back system? If you don't have inspections, then go for it, put the downpipe in there and you still might need a cat delete pipe...Not sure on that one but I would think you are going to come up a bit short if you have a cat back system and a downpipe and you're cutting out the cat...I would think you need a delete pipe.

I will have to double check but I believe my cat is just bolted on. Should I go ahead and get rid of the muffler as well. I am going to call the muffler shop n see about buying a piece to fit it. If they can't then I work in a stainless steel pipe factory n I'm sure I can get a piece to fit
