My sons 97 f-150 extended cab 2 wheel drive has a very minor bent axle on the drivers side. I have been looking for a new axle for him and the most common one listed is for a 9.75" ring gear. But I have seen a few listed that fit an 8" ring gear.
His axle code is H9 which I found is a 3.55 Limited slip rear end, but I can't find any information as to what size ring gear I may have.
The numbers on the rear end tag don't match anything I have seen listed anywhere.
Rear end tag...6869B R 3L55 88 7F12
Anyone have any ideas?
I went ahead and ordered him a 9.75" since this is the most common, but I just have this bad feeling I may have the wrong one
also you can count the bolts in the rear end. An 8.8 will have 10 bolts. A 9.75 will have 12 bolts. I have heard of the rare occasion where the tag may not match the rear end. Just to be sure, count the bolts.
Thanks, I was afraid that after I ordered it and he finally sent the tag numbers that the 88 would mean an 8.8 Now have to send this one back when it arrives and try to find the right one.
