6637 vs afe

I'm new to fte and was woundering if the 6637 is superior to the afe setup? Does it flow more air? Thanks

Well, to be honest, I don't know if it's superior... basically, it's a $30 vs $300 kinda thing. The AFE might flow a little more, might be a little quieter, and might have a more manufactured look, but what little gains it might have aren't worth the price jack to most of us. I have one and I love it! I had the pipe already so all I did was buy the filter from Clay of Riffraff Diesel for about $30 and I was done! I bought me a filter cover later to make it look better... here's my filter thread:

I've run both. Performance-wise I can't tell a single bit of difference.

The AFE is slightly quieter, and to me looks nicer under the hood. It's also nice to just clean the filter rather than buying a new one, but that's just me.

The only reason I'm running an AFE is because I picked up one for a steal. If I didn't find it for the deal I got, I'd probably still be running a 6637.

Pick your pony and ride it.

I would choose a S&B before an AFE personally.

Riffraff Diesel: S&B

I have an afe because the PO had recently installed it. I would use the S&B if buying another. Like the appearance and performance numbers as well as Clay's price.

The S&B does look good. Price looks good too. I have the AFE that I got super cheap used and the 6637. I run the 6637 when I pull the AFE to clean it. I don't notice any difference in performance when I switch. It is nice to have a cleanable filter

i went with an AFE filter that is the 6637 style. this way i can clean it without buying a new filter. i noticed right away that you can hear the turbo a lot more with the AFE then my previous 6637. Clay sells them too

Would you recommend the dry filter or the kit?

Thanks

Which AFE setup? There are three that I know of that will work with our trucks.

It depends on which AFE setup you get.

I like the Big Boost setup Clay sells, list price $89 bucks. A far cry from $300 (or more) depending on the setup.

I have the AFE Stage 2. It's been on for six years now and have nothing bad to say about it. I reach up the intake tube with a white rag every time I clean the filter and never had any oil residue or dirt in the tube. Just my experience with it.

I have had the AFe Stage 1, Afe Stage 2, and now the TYMAR intake. I liked them all, but i prefer the TYMAR myself. FLows extremely well and filters even better. u cant go wrong with any of them really.
