When driving my 71 f250 highboy home tonight, my headlights started flickering on and off. It only happened when I had the high beams on for a couple of seconds and it didn't flicker with just regular headlights. Anyone know what's up?
Usually it's the dimmer switch going bad. If they work good on low beam about all you change in the circuit when you go to high beam is from the dimmer switch to the headlight, and the dimmer is what toggles it back & forth.
Try your dimmer switch, sometimes the connector comes loose, same thing happened on my 72, I just unpluged it blew it out and put it back in and haven't had a problem sence. I know why it just flickered on the high and not the low.
If changing the dimmer switch doesn't fix it, changing the headlamp switch might.
The headlamp circut breaker is inside the headlamps switch itself. When they get old the resistance increases and the circut breaker triggers. (Usually happens on both Hi and low beam though)
Another cause for this problem with the headlamp switch circut breaker triggering is caused by upgrading the headlamps to halogens or brighter. So if you just upgraded the headlamps then you may need to upgrade the wiring and add relays.
