I don't remember if I had to drain my oil or not when I did this.
If I were you I'd play it safe. Drain the oil!
You should change that truck's oil anyway since you just bought it!

Is it possible to drain the oil and put it back into the engine?
Or is that a no no?

Definite no no. You'll contaminate the oil

Good point. Duh!
Well you could try it without draining the oil. Worst thing that could happen? You end up changing your oil anyway! Haha!
I wish I could remember if I had to drain mine. Some reason I don't think I did but I'm not 100% sure on that. Been a while and I have a hard time remembering dinner.

It's on the pressure side, so no need to drain the oil. It's also significantly above the oil level.

That's what I thought. But I've heard from others that I can't do it without draining the oil

Well I replaced the sending unit. That's not the problem. Still no oil pressure on gauge.

Well drove the truck dismornin to class. About halfway there I noticed that I had oil pressure. Guess it was the sending unit. Just had to sit overnight I guess.
