I second that, but make sure you get at least the Ford Enhancement license in order for you to be able to read our trucks. Otherwise without it, you'll only be able to get the generic powertrain info.
Something is not quite right there. I don't see a plug that would fit the obd2 test port, maybe I'm missing something. That device sure does a lot of things for a 60 dollar scanner. I'm thinking it's just part of a package?? My AE cost 360 bucks and needs a laptop to use it. My spidey senses are tingling on this one, maybe I'm wrong.
Those readers can only give some generic codes if your lucky because our trucks are not required to be obd compliant the cheap readers can't pull codes

So then what does everyone else use. I'm sure they are not all out buying the AE Software? On a side note/question, Are there situations where there are codes but no CEL?
Yes I have seen codes without CEL on for example if you disconect a sensor it will give you a DTC without a CEL I am not sure what else there is available.
I'm just starting to learn this stuff, but there can be codes present with no CEL. Anything that isn't obd2or something like that? Maybe if it doesn't produce smog it doesn't light up the CEL? I'm asking more questions than I'm answering, but what the heck, we can all learn together.
You can have a code and no light. That's why having a good code reader is paramount. Even if you just use the AE for code reading it wouldn't take long to recoup considering most dealerships charge a 100 a pop to just read codes.
Well, after what happened tonight after I posted this question about code readers, (see recent post on...no throttle!!!???) I might just fork out the cash and buy AE.

I would its well worth the money if you can do the work yourself Just last week it paid for its self because I had the truck at the dealership for end of warranty work and they told me my fan clutch was shot I tested it with AE and there is nothing wrong with the fan thats $570 the dealr not getting from me
