Yeah but its easier. There are like 6 bolts accessed in the frame rails and then it pulls right off and then you can replace all your tanks fuel pumps etc.

You,ve got the filler line to and wiring to deal with too, its really just about the same effort involved to pull the bed or drop the tank.

Maybe it needs primed?

Easier to suck fuel than to suck air.

well its just me doing this... so pulling the bed isnt really gunna work. i figure i can do the tank by myself though. i am looking at the chiltons right now and it doesnt sound to hard. disconnect the sending unit and what nots, filler tube than the retaining staps.

if one of the local parts stores have one on hand im gunna throw a new tank up there aswell.

A new, clean and empty tank will be easier to put bag in.

I wouldnt mess with cleaning the outside of it, more chance of starting a leak disturbing the rust. If the inside is rusty just get a new tank. FYI, I think some factory tanks are plastic... if yours is plastic I wouldnt replace it unless you find something welse wrong with it.

google it or look it up on youtube for videos. There are a lot of different ways to go about it. I dropped and reinstalled it myself about a week ago wasn't fun but got it done. I cleaned mine with a bunch of bolts and nuts and used a speaker magnet I broke and fixed it to a coat hanger to get them all out when I was done. I used the gas that was still in there with some marvels mystery oil while I cleaned it and rinsed it with a bunch of new gas several times. I still went through 2 or 3 of the clear filters, after but now they are staying clean. Anyways it worked for me.

my tanks now are metal. the out side on them looks great, the whole underside of the truck looks great. it was custom painted, looks like they cleaned and painted the bottom also. but it did sit for a LONG time before i bought it.
