2002 Explorer Audio question

I am a new subscriber here and have a question on the 2002 Explorer audio system. I have a 4 dr XLT that came with the dual media radio, cass and CD, and was rated at 80 watts. I have recently bought the top radio in the line up, the 6 CD changer In dash, made by Visteon. It is an option on XLT and fairly standard on higher trim levels. In the books this is rated at 290 watts. I did see that there was a small third plug at the rear of this radio, and did not see a corresponding third plug in my dash, although I could have missed it. My question is that the new radio does not have the power and volume of the dual media, unless it is turned up pretty high on the volume. All functions do work and it also controls an optional 6 disc changer, which I have in the center console. My first thought is that this radio is set to work in an amplified speaker system which EB's and Limiteds may have, therefore the 290 watt rating. Am hoping to hear from someone knowledgeable in these two radios and if I am overlooking something. Thank You.

2002 Explorer Audio question

I won't be able to help you out much on the power issues you are having, but I am almost positive that the third plug spot you are seeing on the stereo is for vehicles equipped with rear stero controls.

Good Luck
