To start I have a 1997 F550-M\H powered with a460 did they use only E40D trans. behind the 460.If yes can some one tell me where is the best place you can install a temp. sender, need to keep a eye on its temperature high heat is a transmission killer as we tow and travel I-5 north to Canada some very steep hills. What are the best transmission filter oil filter , fuel spark plugs.
Thanks Jim
Hey Jim. I think there were some other transmission options behind 460s but can't say for sure. I run a 460/E4OD in my F250. The best place in my opinion to place a temp sender is in the pan itself. If you drop the pan and weld a threaded nut of the same thread pitch to it, you'll have yourself a bung to screw the sender into. As far as that other stuff, you're going to get lots of opinions here. Some of us (myself included) tend to stay with purely Motorcraft products (they're factory replacements.) Others like to upgrade to the more expensive product. One thing for sure, though, unless you have a high voltage ignition coil, don't waste your time with expensive spark plugs. Just get the cheapo Motorcraft ones and set the gap to .040. There are a lot of gimmick spark plugs out there that do THE EXACT SAME THING as the cheap ones, but they have three prongs and they're painted shiny green and they smell like cinnamon or whatever. Don't get 'em. Good luck man! Hope I helped a little. Welcome to FTE, by the way. Stick around for a while. Lots of good advice around here.
