key fob

One of the last of the 2010 f150s 4x4 crew cabs on the local dealer's lot caught my eye. Yeah, I bought it.

Anyway, i've had it for 6 weeks, love the thing and all but this morning the remote key fob stopped working. I replaced the battery and no luck. i read the section of the manual and still no luck.

Any ideas?

I don't feel like driving to the dealer again

I took it to the dealer once after owning it for a week. The truck made a crazy metalic squeeling noise three or 4 times while driving 70mph on the freeway. the mech claimed evidently found a pebble stuck between a heat shield somewhere.

weird thing is that the horn honked last night when i locked it?that never happened before. when i hit the unlock button this morning I didn't notice the lights come on.

i did some searching and read about cycling the key from pos 1 to pos 3-8 times. I tried it and now the security idiot light flashes ( a light that looks like a pad lock imposed over an outline of a vehicle) fob still isn't working.

But why would you want to mess with it? That's a brand new truck and they are obligated to fix it! That and it would save you a headache.

I took mine in for a noise in the a/c vent that sounded like a leaf was stuck in there. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal, but they had to replace the blower motor and the casing to get the noise to stop.

Just say that it could be a bigger problem than you think, and may be worth letting the dealership handle it. JMO

Dealer fixed it in about 4 seconds. The mech did the "turn the key 8 times" trick. I don't know why that trick didn't work for me?

Did they say why it happened in the first place? Mine did the same and I'm using the second fob until I take it in for an oil change. I'll get it checked out at the same time.

No, they didn't say why it stopped working. I don't know if I accidently pushed the fob button or held it down for some magical amount of time or what?

Something wierd like this happened in a '97explorer i owned when I took it out of 4x4 low in the middle of no-where. the thing wouldn't start, horn was honking, idiot lights flashing etc. I was able to get a cell reception and called a local dealer. They had me put it in nuetral, turn the steering wheel all the way left, take the change out of my right pocket and throw it out the window, say "abracadabra" 3 times fast and turn the key to 3rd position then turn the radio to 87.9, engage the parking break and turn the key. it started and re-set whatever sensor was causing the problem...maybe they didn't have me throw my pocket change out the window but the process was more than a little odd. I thought they were playing a joke on me.

Try the "turn the key 8 times" trick.

put the key in the ignition, turn it from "totaly off" to the 3rd postition ( just before engaging the starter).

Do this 8 times very quickly and on the 8th turn, stopping in 3rd position, the truck should automatically lock and unlock the doors. Immediately use your fob to lock and unlock doors. Within a few seconds use your second fob to lock and unlock the doors.

Good luck.
