I think you should definately upgrade your cam with this motor. Even if its just a cheap summit or elgin cam. I have the elgin knock off of the Performer cam from edelbrock, and it makes a big differance. I don't even have the badger pistons, or keith blacks. The true adds for simple power are pistons, cam, port work to exhaust, headers, intake, carb, and possibly fuel pump. I should do a compression test on mine just to give some comparison numbers, since my motor only has 4,000 or so miles with stock style pistons.
That would definitely be nice for comparison. As an update, I got the head back from the shop and it turns out there were 3 bad valves so that's a relief. Now I'm worried though because I only detected one bad cylinder so I'm not sure where the third bad valve is coming from. Now I'm wondering if I should take the other head off and have it checked just to be safe...
I think I may have been a little confusing to people in my last post... The machine shop found the third bad valve in the head, and I didn't detect it while doing a compression test. That is why I am worried about the other head. I did get the head back on though and am just waiting for my new dizzy which should be here today to get her fired up. Wish me luck!
