My 53 has a FMX and looks to be a Ford 9". Never had one of these big drums on a drive shaft before. Was it for an old parking brake setup or what? Think it will cause harm other then being ugly? Thanks Bob
All I can say is I don't know what the heck it is. I would say if it drives ok without vibrations leave it alone, otherwise have a drive shaft shop make a new one.
Almost looks like they use to run a flat belt to power a buzz saw!? I remember seeing an attch. that you could bolt onto the rear hub and jack the back end of your vehicle up and use it to power a flat belt.
Yea, It's heavy iron. I thought i remember a strap with brake lining going around a drum like that some where. That was a parking brake i think. Any way i have to pull it off to make sure the shaft is the right lenght since nothing else on the truck was safe when i got it. I have an old 66 T-bird shaft i may be able to have cut to lenght.
Pulled drive shaft today and sure enough to short. Brought it to the shop to have it made longer and found out drum is a vibration damper that basicly does nothing.
