2011 actual payload experience, supercab.

I plow with a 2500lb of salt load, to start, w/o any feeling of uneasiness. Recently, I threw in another 25 bags to take home and store. So, 1000lbs plow in front. My salter which is 160lbs. salt load 3750lbs total. Me, 175lbs. Relatively safe. got up to 55 mph. But, very uneasy feeling. Wouldnt repeat it for long distance.

Not at all. Makes the ride smoother, unless you hit a big dip in the road.

Hmm, Interesting. I have a F-250 as well with a 9.2 Steel VXT on it too. I have a 2011 with the 6.2L XLT with Plow Prep.

I have a wood box in the box for bulk salt (275) , my salter (170), me (260), and two yards of salt every storm...(Just os everyone knows, a yard of salt is 2300lbs), and the truck handles it very well. I've been on the highway with over 4,000lbs of salt for over 30mins at 65 and didn't even have to question the ability of the truck.

I cant help ya with salt because i never carry a load of salt in my bed. But i have had 2 yards of mulch @ 900pds a yard and a yard of soil which is @1500 pds a yard in the pickup bed and 8,000 pound trailer which loaded correctly is 800 pds of tounge weight. All in all, i had 4100 pds give or take on my axle and i thought the truck was great at handling it. Its a 06 F350 CC LB 4x4 PSD.

Wow, I think you guys are pushing it at highway speeds. It just felt very very heavy, lateral and braking to me. I know the balance with the plow in the front may allow for more payload in back but I don't know. I definately wouldn't want that w/o a plow in front. The most I had in back by itself was 3,000lbs. No highway and the nose was high.

what tire pressure were you running at the time? does your truck have overload springs? And i see you have a f-250, if you dont have overloads plus the shorter block the rear of the truck is going to sit extremely low which is going to cause horrible feeling while driving and if you dont have the tire psi up its going to be even worse.

Yeah, a 2011 should be able to handle more than that. I've loaded my 05 F350 over 5000lbs in the box, and my 2001 F250 with over 4000lbs of gravel. Both trucks have overload springs, and while squishy, they handled the loads well.

How would I know if I have overload springs? Never heard of that b4. Both my 08' and 2011 had the plow prep package. And both have leaf springs in back. Are overload springs an option? What are they exactly? Paerhaps that's part of the camper package?

The overload spring is that extra "Helper" spring above the normal set of rear springs.

I have not had that kind of weight you guys have had in the Bed of my truck(Have a Dump trailer for that), but have been rather Impressed with how my 06' F-350, does with say 1500 lbs in the Bed,,,,cant even tell it's in there,,,maybe rides a tad better !

yea i cant see you having 5k plus in a srw 250 or 350, i've had 3200lbs in my 2004 f-350 before i had the spring shop make me a add a leaf to help payload and that sucker was sitting low! with the spring its perfect now the way ford should have made it. i've seen newer 06 f-250 reg cab 4x4 from the local landscaper pulling smaller trailer than i tow and i looked like they had broken springs, bumper's dragging ground. haven't seen a new 08 or newer ford haul or tow anything around me but i dont see them being that much better in the payload squating.

Our "yard" of salt around here is only 1200# If I need it by the ton I need to get 2 yards. What does your yard of salt cost you?

Right around 80 to 90. Depending on supply.

I'd say pay attention to the seat of your pants first. If it walks like a duck....you get it.

I believe around 2700 lbs (a bit more) is the maximum payload for your truck.

Keep in mind that max payload depends on a lot of different things...250, 350, 450, etc...SRW, DRW...4x2, 4x4...payload pkg...reg cab, super cab, crew cab...engine...tires...and wheelbase.

So when someone says "I put 5000 lbs in my SuperDuty so you can to", that's not necessarily true.

If you don't have anything in your manual that says what the max payload is for YOUR truck then you can always go to the dealer (or maybe online) and take a look at the 2011 Order Guide.

Just my 2 cents. Be safe.

Thought of one more thing. Keep in mind the max payload also potentially changes with different model years based on how the overall truck is engineered.

I know my 2002 F350 C/C long box 4x4 V10 does not have the same max payload (it's less) as a newer truck of the same build config.

Other things that affect the payload as well...trans, GVWR...and there's more but that's the idea.
