My son just rebuilt his 460 in school. They started it up and it ran good for about 15 minutes. It started to miss, it sounded like a rocker arm came off. We brought it home and started investigating. All the rocker arms we tight so I thought it might be a lifter.
We pulled the manifold and started looking at the lifters, that's when I noticed the cam shaft. The lifters are not sitting square on the lobes. Some have half the lifter on the lobe, some less than half and some are sitting square.
We went to the shop that sold him the cam and he said that is normal.
sounded like a rocker came off, but they are all bolted down tight? sounds like a cam lobe got wiped out. getting more common with todays oils. turn it over by hand and make sure all valves are moving as they should if youve got a bad lobe it will stand out
