That plume isn't my photo, but it looks more like a raging forest fire. We see that plume on the horizon in Oregon quite often.
Crater Lake is a great spot. Not only in the summer, but winter also. Many snowmobilers travel there for lunch and dinner. There is currently 92" of snow there.
