Dripping Gas

I have a 2008 KR short bed with a 43 gallon aux tank in the bed. I have not had any problems with this tank until now. It has been cold here in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Tulsa</st1lace></st1:City>, Ok we were at -7 below. We have had a lot of snow, I have been driving but have not gone over any deep ice burms. I have added<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

This afternoon I went into the garage and smelled very expensive diesel. Lol lets just say that it wasn’t in the gas tank like it was supposed to be. I pulled the truck out and there was no spraying of gas... then I wiped off the bottom of the fuel rail and the tank. I then put a white drop cloth under the same rail. I will check it and see in the morning where the drips seem to be the most prevalent. I guess my long question is does the under tank have a vent or something that might cause it to drip. I checked the hoses coming from the gravity tank in the bed and they are dry. I have also checked the metal skid plate that is covering the tank under the truck and there are no punctures or gashes. Please help with any ideas. At 3.25 I can’t afford to have it just running down the driveway. I know it is not as much as some of you are paying but it is still a hefty amount. Thank you in advance for any help. <o></o>

I think what you are saying is that the truck is leaking fuel alone the drivers side frame. Just in front of the fuel tank.

I'd check your fuel water separator and ensure the drain is closed and not leaking.

Hey just wanted to let you know that some how my aux tank valve got opened all the way so the gravity feed was to much for the tank to hold and fuel was coming out of the vent on the top of the tank. Thank you for your help this is an awesome site.

My under frame water separator leaked last summer. I could not stop the flow as it came out the spout. Now I was on the road and had I been home I might have been able to fashion something. The good news was it DID NOT leak once the engine was started and it only leaked until the separator was empty so it isn't too expensive. Took it in to ford and they replaced the water separator, no problems since.

If your diesel was dripping gas, you've got bigger problems than just a fuel overflow.
