X is here

Well after looking a quites a few X's (6 I guess it's not that many) I brought home a 2003 Limited V10 yesterday. Each X's that I looked at had good points and bad, some seem like new and mechanically were a mess, some were mechanically good and they looked like someone lived in it. This on that I picked up seems to be the best of both (mechanically good and really decent interior) ball joints havebeen replaced less than 48 hours old, I drove it home last night and noticed that when you hit a depressed sewer cap or small pot hole the front end had a metal to metal sound mainly from the drivers side, didn't move the steering wheel or anything, my thought is that it maybe wheel bearings, I'm going to move the smaller boat out of the garage hopefully tomorrow so that I can get the front end up on floor stands and see what i can find. Any thoughs from the forum would be great and anything that I should do while it up. Thanks

Many of the X's, mine included, have a clunk sound coming from the front end. Some on drivers side some on pass. side. Drive it for a while and see if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from and it will be easier to figure what it is. Also do a search for clunk and you will find lots of good reading. HTH!!

Mine was the sway bar bushings. Got some from energy suspension and no more clunk over speedbumps etc.

Sounds like what mine was doing. Sway bar bushings (the ones that attach the bar to the frame). Congrats on the purchase.

Sometimes just looseneing them up and retightenting all the sway bars resolves the issue ...

With all the snow we've been getting in NYC this past month - the roads have been horrible. Snow/Ice has been packed down on side streets and it's like a mine field - not to mention the salt that has destroyed the main roads... I think all this has contributed to my sway bushings going as well.. I started feeling a slight knock ( this time under the driver side ) when turning and going over some bumps, or turning into a driveway etc... I had my bars replaced by the dealer ( under warranty ) about 25K miles ago.

Does anyone know where the best place/price to order replacements would be ?
