To add to this, super duties use Hub piloted wheels so you must use the hubs and rims from an SD also. This also means either using the very expensive unit bearing front end setup OR using the even more expensive conversion setups.
Right!
In all honesty, it would probably be easier just to swap the entire axle from the SD. Unit bearings shouldn't be a problem, since these trucks are much, much lighter than a loaded SD with a diesel sitting over it
Warning: In your quest to add discs to the rear, do not waste your time with the 76-78 El dorado style calipers with the parking brake. I have tried two different lever action cable activated p. brake type of caliper, and the p. brake aspect does not work. Yes, I have read ALL the directions about how to adjust them. I have followed those directions, hoping for results, and got zero results. Well, actually a slight drag, but never enough to hold the truck on a gentle slope.
Also, I would add that even after installing the rear discs, I found the braking lacking. Not until I installed hydroboost did the brakes become awesome and fearless. W/o the h.boost, the brakes were just not quite good enough.
you can tell me its your truck and your business and that's completely fine, but why do you want to go through the time and effort for rear discs? if you have an adjustable proportioning valve, you could adjust enough power to the rears right now to lock them up now. i can't imagine driving a 4wd 78 f250 in a way that rear brake fade is a problem. it's going to be a lot more than just calibers and rotors to do this... you'll need to figure out an e-brake, you'll need a disc/disc master. if you manage to do it with actual 2000+ superduty parts you'll have to run a different bolt pattern and larger diameter wheels.
if you wanted to swap to super duty axles, rear discs would be a cool side benefit, but i honestly doubt you'd notice a difference in your brake performance from a rear disc upgrade alone.
either way, if you do it, make sure you post about it... mods don't have to be appealing to me personally to be interesting.
