Trans Fluid ?

I have a '01 EB 4WD Expedition I changed the trans fluid maybe 4 months ago, it's a second car so I haven't cranked it in 3 weeks and rarely drive it. I started it today and and put in in gear and it did not move for a second, rev the motor and it finally did (but it didn't jerk it was like I have a high stall TC in it). I used Mobil 1 synthetic and I am sure I have enough in the trans. Everything worked great before the fluid change anyone else have a similar experience?

I have had enough experience with Mobil 1 to know that I would never pour it into my vehicle.

After 3 weeks of sitting I don't think it is too surprising that the trans needed a second to build pressure. I would double check the fluid level using the correct procedure though. What you describe is almost always low fluid level.

Another possible issue is that the trans was not originally filled with synthetic. Kind of hard to blame it on the fluid but I personally would have never used the product you chose.

Did you change the tranny filter at the same time? Mixing syn with traditional fluid shouldn't make any difference. Ford recommends changing tranny fluid every 35k if used under towing applications and many wait way too long. I have use Lucas tranny additive after mine started to shutter between 3rd and overdrive andit solved that issue. Also, the converter stores many qts of tranny fluid and should be drained to remove all old fluid at the same time.

I did change change the filter and flushed the entire system per a thread I found on this site by using the motor to pump fluid through the system. I am checking the fluid hot with the truck in P, I know that some people say it should be in N but the only difference in P and N is in P the output shaft is dogged in most transmissions (I guess it is here also). I'll check it agin today but I'm fairly sure it's full, I'm just wanting to see if the anyone else has noticed a difference after the change to Mobile 1, after it's moving the shifting does seem to shift smoother (not that there was any thing wrong before).

I'm kind of new to this TC thing as I've mostly owned cars and mini trucks that are standard. How do I flush the TC to get all the fluid out as I am over due to drain my tranny? I would also like to know what is thought of Royal Purple, Has anyone used it? recommend it? Don't recommend it?

Thanks Guys and lady's
