greets all,
sorry i don't make on more often, wish it wasn't everytime i had an issue. between chasing oil leaks, online school, work, and side work i don't get much time. hoping someone can chime in. I was headed to do a side job today, a trip that i had made yesterday as well with my truck. shortly outside my town the truck died while at highway speed. i had my laptop and AE with me so i hooked up, checked codes and fluids. i don't have the exact codes with me but it appeared to be complaining about injection pressure and IDM. I though given the symptoms and proximity to town i'd have my wife run a CPS out to me (my spare had issues) and i'd try that. after sitting for a while and getting the cps replace it worked for about ten miles then died again not to be revived. i have a lot of codes from chasing gremlins down, like wiper switches and crap so i don't remember all of them. I keep seeing injection pressure high while running and low while running/cranking along with cps and idm codes. trying to figure out is wrong. I went from a blue IH sensor to a new style grey ford. i have a spare grey ford as well. wondering if its still cps issues or something with the injection pressure like the ipr. btw i did try the trick of unplugging the CIP sensor, no dice. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chad
mods include hutch, harpoon, regulated return fuel system, hpx, 6637, 4" turbo back, transgo shift kit on new engine and rebuilt tranny. all injectors are pretty new as well.
will need to do some reading about the ipr when i get home and then bundle up and check it, got a cold front heading in here. had the truck towed home and after it came off the flatbed it cranked just fine. i'm not sure if it's building HPO pressure properly while cranking when i was watching it on AE. don't always get CPS or IDM code, but always get codes for injection pressure. trying to mentally sort through the codes to decide which ones are valid and which ones are the computer flipping out as the engine dies. have a sneaking feeling I'll need to check the IPR.
Do you have a chip or tuner? Remove them or it,does it do the same thing? If it fixes it, it would be a dirty connection. Just another idea and a bump.
Does your WTS light come on and go off like normal with the key? Engine oil full? Can you hear the fuel pump come on for 20 seconds or so with the key? How did it stall? Spit and sputter or like someone shut the key off?
Hook up AE and switch to the live data tab. Monitor RPM, ICP psi, IPR duty cycle % (ICP %), battery voltage and injector pulse width in ms. Crank the truck, watch the numbers and report back with the findings. No rpm while cranking is CPS / wiring related. ICP needs to see 500 psi to fire.
Chris, that's a very good question. it's sporadic about when it dies, but there may have been some times without the check engine light. (i may have written it off as the light timing out while i was running around the vehicle). do those lights time out? if not, that means power delivery to the computer right? loose connection? i know there's a tie between fuel bowl heater and comp power, but i would expect that to blow a fuse. maybe i'm wrong. BTW no chips or tuners, not yet anyways.
