Has anyone had experience, good or bad with the Transgo Tugger shift kit? I recently had my tranny rebuilt with Transgo Tugger shift kit and a billet torque converter. My problem now is when I tow a trailer I have trouble maintaining 60 mph because when the transmission shifts into overdrive, it locks up right away and drops too much rpm and doesn't make enough power. Would a chip solve this?
Welcome to FTE. Lot's of folks use the Transgo Tugger. Did you just get the Transgo modifications to the valve bodies, or more of the internal stuff too?
The shift kit should just firm up the shifts (less slip), but shouldn't affect when the torque converter locks. Tell us what year truck, what motor and what transmission you have and we can offer more specific advice.
I drive a 2001 F-350 4x4 XLT. 7.3l diesel engine and the 4R100 trans. Would it be the aftermarket torque converter that would determine the lockup then?
The 4R100 should lock well before 60. How much are you towing and what rpms are you turning that you have now power? Stop by the 7.3 diesel section further down the forum and you can get some ideas on a chip with good tow tunes for your truck.
The shift timing and converter lock up schedules are all controlled by the computer.
Can be done with mechanically also. The OPs issue is why I took the VB off my truck. Tuning and these shift kits often do not work together the way they should and can require a lot of trial and error to dial things in properly.
I'm generally towing 25-30 foot campers. I'm running about 2500 rpm in fourth lockup, and when it shifts into overdrive lockup, the rpm drop to around 1500 rpm.
In general, you want the TC to lock up as quickly as possible to minimize heat generation and risk of overheating and destroying transmission.
So most transmission performance "modifications" will include features to make it lock up quicker.
To have it lock up slower, you will likely have to go custom.
How long are you wanting it to slip before locking up?

I don't understand since you only have 4 gears, 4th and OD are the same gear. You should not be spinning 2500 in 4th nor 1500 at regular highway speeds. My 3.73 4th/OD locked spins 2000 @ 68mph
