slight throttle surge

This is staring to drive me crazy, My truck has a slight surge while driving (not turbo surge) but more like im hitting gusts of wind (the best way I can desribe it)
It seems to be happening when its cold until its fully warmed up.
Its not a real jerking, or cutting out, but just a slight surge.
I changed the ICP and IRP last week with new ones hoping that was the problem, it seemed to lessen the surge, but its still there.

I also changed the TPS, CPS, did the 50 cent mod, and replaced one of the injector harnesses all within the past year.
I have no code reader. No SES light while surging, fresh syn oil change, clean air filter....
My exhaust back pressure sensor has been unplugged by the water pump as long as I can remember.
I dont normally see these cold temps in Florida.... could It could be my EBPV acting up???
Ford replaced the turbo about a year ago and all the linkage is connected and looks new.

I think I covered everything....

Have you done the in tank mods? Would be nice to see fuel pressure under load.

With the EBPS unplugged that disables the operation of the ebpv. Good luck, that would be annoying.

I have not done the in tank mods yet...
The fuel pressure gauge is on my mod list...boy thats a long list.
I just plugged the EBPS back in to rule it out tomorrow morning.
Thanks Grant.

IIRC you were getting a code for the ebps and that's why you had it unplugged. The best way to disable the ebpv is to unplug the solenoid. It's on the front of the turbo pedistal.

I would think with the mileage on your truck the screens in the tank are probably pretty nasty.

Yes, I was getting a code for the EBPS, Thats why I unplugged the sensor now that I think about it....
I am planning on doing the intank when I get back on my home turf. I'm sure its pretty ugly in there.
The surging seems to only take place when I hold the throttle still at any cruising speed, If I accelerate it's fine, but as soon as I level off at one speed I start to feel it.....
The truck has always surged like this while the crusie was on, i just thought it was the ICP/IRP, but when it started surging without the cruise I changed both of them.

Frank, my truck has been doing the exact same thing for awhile now. You described it perfectly. I need to hook it up and go through everything and throw a fuel pressure gauge on. I like the look of an external mount, so I might just mount one permanent. I'm tired of it too, and my problem seems to be getting worse so time to dig in. Do the intank mods when you can, I think you'll be pleased with the results.

I'm pretty sure Jody recommends having the ebps hooked up. Like Grant said, disable it at the front of the turbo pedistal.

So you did the intank mods and your having the same problem...I will do the mods when I get home, but it sounds as though its something else.
If I can track it down I will be sure to let you know what I find. I'm hoping the cold weather has something to do with it, cause mine seems to be getting worse also.

Hey Frank, got your message. I still haven't messed with my truck, haven't been driving it much. I'm at the mercy of using my buddies scanner and he just broke his arm, looks like it's getting an infection, he's in pain and depressed, blah blah.. I've got a package coming from Clay, I should throw an AE on the ticket but dang I'm awfully poor right now. Just can't shell out the $$$. Like yours, my truck runs fine with the foot in the pedal so I just keep it there! More fun and it sounds sooo good. Rough on the diesel bill though. Issues like this are usually hard to pinpoint. The list of possibilities is pretty lengthy. Heck, I say we get new IDM's, throw in some hybrids, new tuning, compounds, and a couple sets of new rear tires. Maybe that'll fix it!?

That sounds like a great idea...
I need to get the AE also, I dont like guessing at things. Maybe I'll get a bonus from this Texas job which will be done this week...I'll keep my fingers crossed on that.
I'm waiting on a clean Blackstone on this engine, If its good I'll invest in some good parts. If not I'll start the rebuild on my spare, build it up and drop it in. It has a clean bill of health.
If i find anything before you i will be sure to let you know.

Question at a dead stop, foot on the brake do you feel like there is a slight miss. My truck was doing the same thing but I changed the glow plugs and why, I have no clue but it fixed it. I did have a small pin size hole in two GPs tho. Before the GPs I did both ucvh, fuel filter, intank mod, icp, 6673, ccv mod, all that seamed to help but never took it away completely, I'd say test your plugs if you can.

There is no miss at idle. and no surging idle. For two days this week it ran perfect. the past two days its back to the surging????
I'm trying to log when it happens.
Today it was most noticable at 50-60 mph, I spead up to 70 and it was smooth.
It seems to go away after it well warmed up, maybe 20-25 mins of driving.
Is It possible while you were changing your glow plugs you snugged up a loose uvch
