It's starting to sound like a software issue.
Have you tried any other tunes during warm-up?
I usually keep it in stock until the temp needle is in the middle of the gauge (depending on ambient temp 2-5 miles)
If it surges in stock, it will surge worse in 80e. Its not a bad surge, just more noticable, and annoying
This morning it was fine. No surge at all......?
I plan to send my chip back to Jody for some updates when I get back to Fl.
If that doesn't straighten it out I'll have to invest in a AE.
I could use one anyhow....
Hmmm, no surging today.
How about this: disconnect, and inspect the big plugs for the wiring harness.
The square one at the top of the engine and the long rectangular one for the ECU.
If you feel ambitious, the one for the IDM inside the fenderwell, too.
Any other plugs.
Making sure there is no corrosion at any of the plugs.
I experience some slight surging when ambient temps are cooler. IIRC, Jody's newer updates on his tunes allow for a gradual "ramping" of power based on EOT (among other parameters), allowing you to start out in a tune other than stock. Until my truck has warmed up to a certain temp, it seems more prone to surge. I don't seem to notice the surge on warm days and when I have used the block heater. I am STILL waiting for my Aeroforce Scangauge to arrive so that I can monitor the ICP and EOT while cold, and when warm, to see when changes in the engine's behaviour occur. So far, I am just "living with it" until I can draw some better conclusions and also since it does appear to be a continuous problem.
I will check it today Dan. Thanks for the idea.
Roland, this morning it was surging in all the tunes but stock, so you may be onto something. I have been using the block heater from time to time. I can't recall if it surged after being plugged in.
Ill check the plug today, and get my tunes updated real soon. I don't thing the surge is getting wors, I think I'm just getting more annoyed by it.
Thanks for your input guys.
Roland, Are you having to plug your truck in to get it to start,or are you just being cautious. I have never pluged my truck in, even when it was 16* here a week or so back. It always seams to start with ease.

I really don't need the block heater for it to start. I just like the fact it warms up quicker when I get in it and head to work.
I put in all 8 new WAP glow plugs when I did the injector swap about 1 1/2 yrs ago. All of them tested like new. I just erred on the side of caution. Still have the OEM GPR though.
I did have an issue 2 weeks ago when the the GPR and Fuel Pump would cycle on for 1 second, go off, and had a no start situation. Started up fine the next day in mid 20* weather. No more incidents since then. It was cold enough, however, for my engine oil cooler o-rings to leak until it warmed up slightly, so I had that project to deal with. It couldn't wait 'til the spring.

What powers that part of the truck? Another relay? Straight from the ignition switch? It might be giving you some early warning signs, there.
