Engine light came on last night. Codes are P1520 and P1537 which appears to be indicating the intake manifold runner control (bank 1) is stuck open (P1537). Does P1520 mean that an electrical fault or problem with the actuator possibly caused the second fault? I cleared the codes and they returned when I again started the truck cold this morning. It has been below freezing here in Michigan for at least 6 weeks now with temps regularly in the single digits. Could this be worsening the problem?
I guess my real questions are:
1) Is this something I would want to tackle in the middle of winter (I don't really know how accessible it is without a hoist)?
2) Is it possible it is just dirty/gummy and might be fixed with some carb cleaner?
3) Can this cause engine damage if I do not repair it immediately?
Here is a link to info on the intake runner control. I don't know how accessible it is to get to the individual parts of system. I do know that there are numerous steps to removing the intake itself. The instructions on Mitchels on Demand (library online car repair database) goes on for pages. Some mention was made of vac operated controls so might want to check hoses (if any) in area are intact.
