yea i have cleaned mine before but i guess i should tell the whole story. the turbo is on my brothers new truck that we got with 74000 on it for 2k. but the motor is blown due to the previous owner forgot to put oil back in the truck after an oil change. so to try and save money i am going to try and get the turbo rebuilt as a safety measure because i have a 6.0 and i already know the problems with these things. so to prevent me going back into the motor again i just wanna get it done for piece of mind
g-popshop.com.rebuild kit cost me 145 with next day shipping, and was simple to do.if youve cleaned it before, you were just about into a rebuild.check out the turbo rebuild section that benchwrench put on herehttp://gpopshop.com/
just called him and they dont rebuild them but they have the rebuild kit. kinda strange to me but industral said they can do it for 450 maybe alittle more so i figured its cheaper than a new one so why not

What I would do is inspect the turbo first.
Is the compressor wheel dusted due to a filter problem?
Is there any physical damage to the compressor or turbine wheel?
Is there axial or radial movement in the bearings?
If the answer is no to all of these I would use it.

No way not putting oil back in a 6.0 would ever cause the engine to be blowen up. Not possible with a injection system that needs oil to run the injectors.

I was wondering about that comment myself. This could get really interesting if the OP cares to share what all he finds out about his "blown motor".

I guess the question is "How much oil does the HPOP use or does the oil stay in the system except for a small leakage?" How long would the reservoir last? It's not an experiment I want to do!
If the oil stays in the HPOP it must get a beating between oil changes. I would hope that the FICM would detect no engine oil pressure and throw a warning or shutdown.
I don't think there is FICM/PCM oil pressure detection of any kind as a prestart requisite. The HPOP reservoir holds 2 or 3 quarts of oil but I don't know the pump volume of the HPOP. The LPOP is very high volume but without oil to feed the HPOP it won't run long--only seconds I'd imagine if it would start at all. That's why we're wondering about how no oil in the crankcase from an oil change could have cause a blown motor.
im just going by what the previous owner told me. i have no idea what really happend yet because i havent gotten into the motor. im plannin on doing that this weekend. i have to go off the owners word being that the truck has been sitting for 2 years. but i also find it hard to believe what he was saying because there is oil on the dip stick and it smells super burnt
