im just going by what the previous owner told me. i have no idea what really happend yet because i havent gotten into the motor. im plannin on doing that this weekend. i have to go off the owners word being that the truck has been sitting for 2 years. but i also find it hard to believe what he was saying because there is oil on the dip stick and it smells super burnt
I'd pull the oil filter first to see if the plastic standpipe that holds the filter is melted. If so then the motor is scrap metal as there is no way to get the melted plastic from the oil filter passages AND the motor has been VERY hot (oil temps 350+).
i will try that first but ive already planned to get a long block for it and just use the top end off of the old motor to save some money. i will try to start another thread this weekend when i get started on it to let everyone know what is wrong with it.

I don't think there is FICM/PCM oil pressure detection of any kind as a prestart requisite. The HPOP reservoir holds 2 or 3 quarts of oil but I don't know the pump volume of the HPOP. The LPOP is very high volume but without oil to feed the HPOP it won't run long--only seconds I'd imagine if it would start at all. That's why we're wondering about how no oil in the crankcase from an oil change could have cause a blown motor.
Yup, I did have that thought and that's why I asked if the HPOP is a sealed system, like a back-hoe hydraulic system, or if the high pressure oil is returned to the sump after operating the injectors.
IIRC there are two solenoids for each injector, one to open and one to close the injector. Does the oil vent into the valve cover when the injector operates?

Can you paste a link to the new thread here when you start it? Some times posts move down the page quickly and I would like to know!
ok so i got into the motor this weekend and found that the stand pipe for the oil filter was completely gone. spring and all so im for sure getting a new motor. does everyone want me to start a new thread or just keep on this one. plus i need a new engine wiring harness does anyone know where i can get one?

LOL--your ears must have been burning because the moderator and I were just talking about your motor not 30 minutes ago.
I'd start a new thread just for clarity, but did you find any traces of the standpipe melted or was it just removed.
AFA the engine harness you'll probably need the VIN and call partsguyed.com. Those can be very difficult. I don't recall ever seeing what year model truck you were working on or any of the particulars except the 74K miles.
its an 04. i see them on ebay from time to time off of 06-07's but cant ever come arcross a 04. ill start a new thread here in just a bit and post it on here. im sure it was melted because the oil filter hadnt been removed in a good 2 years from the look of it and the way it came off
